In Loving Memory of Noel Matthew Bennett

September 22, 1948 – June 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Noel Matthew Bennett, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Noel passed away in his sleep on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the age of 76, at the General Hospital in Ottawa, Ontario.

Born on September 22, 1948, in Trinidad and Tobago, Noel was the cherished son of Rawlins Cuthbert Francois and Adina Bennett. A devoted and loving husband to Lucille Benjamin-Bennett, they shared 34 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership.

Noel was the proud father of four children—Hilaire Ontchangalt, Gia Bennett-Bailey, Nathalie Douglas, and Michael Bennett—each of whom he loved deeply and guided with quiet strength and unwavering dedication. He created a home rooted in love, warmth, and resilience, always placing his family at the center of his world.

Noel worked over 30 years with the Department of Justice, where he was known for his commitment and integrity. Outside of work, he found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching and playing cricket and golf, enjoying steel pan, gospel and R&B music, buying lottery tickets His smile was warm, his heart was generous, and his presence was a source of comfort to all who knew him.

Despite battling Parkinson’s disease for eight years, Noel faced the illness with admirable strength, grace, and courage. He was a survivor in every sense—a steady and resilient soul who never lost his love for life.

He was a loving grandfather to Nathanial Bennett, Christopher and Chelsea Bennett-Bailey, Mason and Naomi Douglas, and Nataliya Williams-Aiken—each a light in his life and a source of immense pride.

Noel was also a cherished brother to Myrtle, Ann, Yvonne, Angela, Pauline, Wayne, Debra, and Susan; a nephew to Anna; a cousin to Noel and Frank; and a beloved uncle to many, including Gregory “Akil” Goddard, Sophia and Sonia Goddard, Clint, KC, Trisha, and Sylvester. His extended family and wide circle of friends will remember him fondly for his humor, warmth, and gentle wisdom.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Kelly Funeral Home in Ottawa, followed by a celebration of life at the family home.

Noel leaves behind a legacy of love, quiet resilience, and lasting impact. Though his physical presence has left us, his spirit, teachings, and warmth will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

He will be dearly missed and forever loved.
